The Mobile Healers

No one was safe from the Mobile Healers, students at the Institute for Health and Healing on their lunch break. They felt empowered. According to one of them, they were ready to jump out of the car and "rid the nearest bystander of sleeplessness, depression, cancer, or confusion."

It has been a joy to work with so many men and women of diverse backgrounds. Housewives, hairdressers, nurses, writers, construction workers, people from all walks of life attend the Institute for Health and Healing, through which I teach a two-year training program in hands-on healing. The training program at the Institute, now finishing up its fifth year, begins every fall. Classes are small, and individual attention is given to every student.

When we direct universal, divine energy with loving intent to heal, energy blocks dissolve and the body can be restored to its natural healthy state. Healing skills are developed at the Institute through many experiential exercises in which students learn to access a universal, loving energy, as well as their own inner wisdom and higher guidance.

Connection with your guides

I find that everyone is unique in their gifts. What I believe the classes do is give a person the cognitive and experiential space to develop his or her own gifts. I try to create a safe and healing environment with exercises to bring out and enhance any latent gifts. One woman, a legal assistant, has found a strong connection to her guides. In doing one long-distance healing she reported watching her guides working on a woman's heart. In another healing she reported, "I think my guides have a very loving sense of humor too. I like the way I am learning to relate to them: we are becoming a more familiar family."

Everyone is Special

I find every person to be unique. Some people are ever so sensitive. These people are usually kinesthetic. They tend to be empathic and feel other people and places. Some people just "get stuff" and know what is going on. They are the intuitives. Some people think they don't get anything; that their minds are too busy analyzing. These people are the ones who get "messages" and hear, when they truly listen.

Clairvoyant sight

Some people see in their mind's eye. One student was amazed to "see" a shackle around a woman's ankle, only to find out that the woman had chronic ankle pain. Another student "saw" a cage surrounding a man's heart. He was under a lot of stress and held his overall body very rigidly. She "heard" that this is the way he protected himself. I feel it is very important that everyone be validated for whom they are, and the talents and gifts that are theirs alone. I believe that these gifts can be heightened through exercises and through practice.

Miracles do Happen

Miracles do happen. Sometimes a friend or relative of one of the trainees will come in for a group healing at the end of class late on Sunday afternoon. One woman, who came for a group healing, who I'll call Linda, would "freak out" whenever her husband touched her. She was tortured by flashbacks of memories of sexual abuse by her father, her half-cousin and her brother. Needless to say, sex was out of the picture. However, just once, she had allowed her husband to get close. Now she was eight months pregnant and close to giving birth.

Linda lay down on a massage table in the middle of the room, surrounded by all the students. Together we infused her with loving energy with the intent to heal on all levels of her being. Over the coming week, she found to her amazement and happiness, that she was able to get close to her husband and once again enjoy his touch, and sexual relations. Their renewed closeness resulted in her husband being present for the birth of their daughter which he recorded with a camcorder. She would never have allowed this to be prior to the healing.

Shrinking a liver tumor

Recently I have been feeling ever so proud of my second-year students. One of them, a nurse, reported on a series of healings he had done on a male patient with Esophageal Adenocarcinoma with liver metastasis. The man had been fighting his cancer with some success since the late 1980's with conventional therapies. However, in September of last year as he was very jaundiced with high bilirubin, conventional treatment was contraindicated. After a healing by my student his blood indicators went back into a range where chemotherapy could be performed, and was done. My student also suggested that the man do positive visualizations throughout the chemo treatment using gold light.

With the combination of the energetic healings and the conventional chemo treatment, his tumor shrank a great deal, but had not totally disappeared. His jaundiced, yellow skin had returned to a normal color. He was stronger, eating better, and his hair started growing back in. The battle was still being fought, showing that a compromised immune system could indeed be activated; that adding the energetic healing work to the conventional chemo treatment not only helped to alleviate many of the unpleasant side effects of the chemotherapy, but to diminish the size of the tumor.

Healing oneself

Another one of my students, a handyman and construction worker who had been meditating for about two years prior to taking the course, finds that he can now access a very deep healing meditative state with what he calls "Perfect Power, Perfect Love." He also found that over the course of the class, that a physical problem that he had, has disappeared. He is very happy and appears to be in a very good place.

Healing pneumonia

I, too, have experienced some amazing healings. For example, I have been able to help two people with pneumonia. One man called me after having been diagnosed with pneumonia the day before. I went over to his apartment only to find him feverish in a dark room, afraid that he might throw up at any time. After working on him for about an hour or so, the man felt well enough to get up and out of bed. He asked me to make him some green tea. Following the healing his pneumonia quickly cleared up. In another case I worked on a woman who had debilitating pneumonia for three weeks and could not seem to get rid of it. Again I went to her home and worked on her. Two days later she saw her doctor. The doctor said that her progress was indeed a miracle, as she only had a little left in the lower right lobe of her lung.

Urinary tract infection cleared

Early on, when I was a student at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, I worked on a woman, who had had a urinary track infection for almost two months. Nothing she had tried had worked to alleviate it. After doing a healing the woman had to get up to go to the bathroom. When she returned, she said the burning had disappeared. The next day it was still gone and never came back. Energy healings do work!

Classes are life-transforming

I love teaching and find it a joy to instill in my students a love of learning and an excitement that they can actually do the healings. At the Institute through numerous exercises, students learn to open to their own inner guidance and wisdom. Many have wonderful things to say about the program. One student reported, "Since I've been working with Phyllis Winslow through the Institute and private therapy, my whole life has been transformed." Another said, "The Institute has supported and facilitated my growth as a healer in unprecedented ways and positively influenced all areas of my life."

A long time ago I was a computer systems analyst and reporter/researcher for various magazines. In the early seventies I was beset with health problems following a vacation to Mexico. After conventional medicine failed to help, I went to alternative practitioners and finally a psychic healer. The healer was able to help me more than any other therapy, so I made the decision to pursue the laying-on-of hands healing. In 1992 I graduated from the four-year Barbara Brennan School of Healing. Along the way I studied with numerous healers and developed my own techniques.

I believe we are all born with a natural ability to heal; it just needs to be brought out and developed. I believe that Love is indeed the greatest healer.

Each semester at the Institute for Health and Healing consists of four weekend classes held once a month from 9:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Classes are held at the Inn Suites Hotel, at St. Mary's and Granada in Tucson.
